Sound familiar?

Most compression socks are 70 to 90% nylon and spandex. They do the squeezing, but plastic fibres can't breathe: heat and sweat sit against your skin for twelve hours, and the smell comes home with you. New clogs and gel insoles can't fix what your socks are doing.

  • Sweaty by hour fourSynthetic knit traps heat, so your feet stew all shift.
  • That end-of-shift smellNylon holds on to odour. You know the one.
  • A wrestle to get onSweating before you've even clocked in.

Your shift, in alpaca

What 12 hours feels like in these

  1. 6:45am · Handover On in seconds Turn them inside out to the heel, step in, roll them up. No wrestling, no sweating before you've started.
  2. 10:30am · Rounds The hug gets to work Firmest at the ankle, easing towards the knee, with a cushioned sole under every step on hard floors.
  3. 2pm · Still no lunch Dry, not damp Alpaca and merino pull sweat off your skin, so your feet aren't stewing by the afternoon.
  4. 7:15pm · Handover again Shoes off, no second thoughts Wool naturally resists odour, so kicking your clogs off in the staff room is no big deal.
  5. 8pm · Home Into the wash, fresh pair tomorrow Machine wash cold, hang to dry, and there's a clean pair waiting for your next shift.

How they work

Three things nylon can't do

Most of every pair is fine alpaca and merino, knitted with just enough stretch yarn to hold a graduated hug. That's the whole difference.

The hug

Firmest at the ankle, easing towards the knee

Graduated compression is snuggest at the ankle and relaxes as it climbs, so your legs feel a steady, even hug all shift, without the vice-grip at the calf that cheap compression is known for.

Dry and fresh

Sweat moves out, not in

Alpaca and merino fibres draw moisture vapour off your skin and release it into the air. Nylon can't absorb it, so it sits on your skin. Wool also naturally resists odour, so the smell doesn't build up in the sock.

Comfort

Warm on a cold start, comfortable on a warm ward

Alpaca fibres are partly hollow, so they trap a little air and insulate without bulk, and they breathe. Baby alpaca is finer than most wool and has no lanolin, so it's soft and far less itchy than ordinary wool.

What's actually in your socks

84% alpaca and merino. Just enough stretch to hug.

Every compression sock needs some stretch yarn. The difference is what makes up the rest, and what sits against your skin for twelve hours. Imported.

  • Baby alpaca 62%

Soft, warm, kind to skin. Exceptionally fine and naturally warm without the weight. It's lanolin-free, so it's gentler on skin that finds wool itchy.

  • Merino wool 22%

Breathes and stays fresh. Moves sweat away from your skin and naturally resists odour, so your feet stay fresher for longer.

  • Nylon 9%

Strength where socks wear through. Reinforces the heel and toe and helps every pair hold its shape.

  • Spandex (elastane) 7%

The stretch behind the compression. The stretch and recovery that create the graduated fit, and what keeps them up.

Made for every kind of shift

  • ICU, ER and the wardsMiles of hard floor, hardly any sitting down.
  • Night shiftWarm through a cold 3am, fresh at the 7am handover.
  • Travel nursesFresh pair every shift, light to pack, and they behave on a long flight home.
  • CNAs, techs and midwivesAnyone whose job is 12 hours of standing and walking.
  • Fuller calvesOne size with plenty of stretch, made to sit smoothly without digging in.
  • Clogs or trainersCushioned without bulk, so your usual work shoes still fit.

Nurses ask us

Are they firm enough for a 12-hour shift?

They give a firm, graduated hug: snuggest at the ankle and easing towards the knee. Firm enough to feel them working all shift, soft enough that you forget you're wearing them. We don't quote an mmHg rating, because these are everyday comfort socks, not a medical device.

Won't wool be too hot on a warm ward?

Alpaca and merino breathe and wick sweat, so they stay comfortable on a warm ward and keep you warm on a cold early start or an air-conditioned night shift.

Do they fit in clogs and running shoes?

Yes. The cushioned sole is soft without being bulky, so they sit comfortably in work clogs, trainers and running shoes.

Can they go through the wash after every shift?

Yes. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, inside out, and hang to dry. Skip the fabric softener and the dryer. With 8 pairs you have a fresh pair for every shift of the week, plus a spare.

Will they go with my scrubs?

They come in black, grey and natural white, and you can mix colours in any bundle.

What size are they?

One size, knitted with plenty of stretch to fit most adult feet and calves. If they don't fit you, our 100-day guarantee has you covered.

Are they a good gift for a nurse?

They're one of the few gifts a nurse will use every shift. Every pair comes in a kraft paper band, ready to give, and a bundle lets you split pairs across a whole team.

Can anyone wear compression socks?

They're everyday comfort socks, not a medical device. If you're pregnant, have diabetes, neuropathy, a circulation condition or a history of blood clots, or are recovering from surgery, check with your doctor first. Take them off if you feel numbness or tingling.
