Description

Gentle support, alpaca soft. A knee-high sock with graduated compression, firmest at the ankle and easing up the calf, made for long flights, travel days, nursing and hospitality shifts, and anyone standing all day. One size for men & women, in black, grey and natural white.

  • Graduated fit. Snug at the ankle and gradually gentler up the calf, for a supported, energised feel.
  • Comfortable cuff. A wide top band that holds without leaving deep marks.
  • Soft against the skin. Soft alpaca means none of the scratchy, plasticky feel of typical compression socks.
  • Fresh, not hot. Alpaca naturally wicks sweat and resists odour, so they don't get the stale smell synthetic compression socks are known for, and stay comfortable from the departure lounge to the end of a summer shift.

Fit & putting them on

Snug, never painful. To put them on, turn the sock inside out down to the heel, slide your foot in, then roll it up your leg, smoothing as you go. One stretchy size fits most adult feet. If they don't suit you, our 100-Day Best Socks Guarantee has you covered.

Gentle, everyday graduated compression for comfort: not medical-grade and not a medical device. If you've been prescribed a specific compression level, or have a circulation or vein condition, follow your doctor's advice. Take them off if you feel numbness, tingling or pinching.

Why alpaca?

Alpaca fibre has a hollow core that traps warm air, so it's light for the warmth it gives. It's naturally lanolin-free, which is why many people who find sheep's wool itchy are comfortable in alpaca, and it adapts to the temperature: warm when it's cold, cool when it's not, while naturally wicking sweat for dry, fresh feet all day.

Washing & care

Wash cold and hang dry. Turn them inside out and skip the fabric softener, and they'll stay soft for longer.

Imported.

Alpacas grazing on a high plateau beneath snowy mountains

Why alpaca

Nature's warmest fibre, made to last

Alpacas live high in the Andes, where nights freeze and days burn, and their fibre evolved for both. So our socks keep you warm on frosty starts, stay cool on the climb, and naturally wick sweat so your feet stay dry and fresh all day.

  • Adapts to any weather. Hollow-core fibre traps warmth when it's cold and breathes when it's warm.
  • Lanolin-free. Most people who find wool itchy are comfortable in alpaca.
  • Naturally wicks sweat. Pulls moisture away from your skin for dry, fresh feet from first light to last.
  • Built for the outdoors. Cushioned, hard-wearing and made for long days on your feet.

Best. Socks. Ever.

Not the cheapest. Not the most pairs for your money. The best. Alpaca against your skin, real graduated compression, a cushioned sole and a seamless toe, in a sock you'll actually want to pull on at 5am.

  • Made With Baby Alpaca WoolSoft, warm and kind to bare skin.
  • Graduated compressionFirmest at the ankle, easing to the knee.
  • Seriously warmHollow alpaca fibres hold heat on the coldest mornings.
  • Wicks moisturePulls sweat off your skin, so feet stay dry and fresh.

Why compression?

A firm, graduated hug. Lighter-feeling legs by the end of the day.

Graduated compression is snuggest at the ankle and eases off as it climbs to the knee. That steady hug is why nurses wear them every single shift, and why frequent flyers won't board a long-haul flight without a pair.

  1. Lightest below the knee
  2. Easing up the calf
  3. Steady support
  4. Firmest at the ankle
  • Legs that feel lighter

A firm, graduated hug from ankle to knee, so your legs feel lighter at the end of a 12-hour shift.

  • Made for long days

12-hour shifts, long-haul flights, all-day site work. Step off the plane or out of the ward feeling fresher.

  • Warm, not sweaty

Alpaca and merino breathe, so your feet stay warm on a frosty morning without overheating on a warm ward.

  • Fresh at the end of the day

Wool wicks sweat and resists odour, even on a double shift.

  • On in seconds, no wrestling

Turn them inside out down to the heel, step in, then roll them up your leg. That's the whole trick.

Who wears them

Made for the people hardest on their feet

What's in every pair

Four fibres, each with a job

Mostly alpaca for warmth and softness, merino to breathe, and just enough nylon and spandex to make them last and give the compression. Imported.

  • Baby alpaca 62%

Soft, warm, kind to skin. Exceptionally fine and naturally warm without the weight. It's lanolin-free, so it's gentler on skin that finds wool itchy.

  • Merino wool 22%

Breathes and stays fresh. Moves sweat away from your skin and naturally resists odour, so your feet stay fresher for longer.

  • Nylon 9%

Strength where socks wear through. Reinforces the heel and toe and helps every pair hold its shape.

  • Spandex (elastane) 7%

The stretch behind the compression. The stretch and recovery that create the graduated fit, and what keeps them up.

How we compare

Alpaca vs the rest

Not all warm socks are created equal. Here's how alpaca stacks up against the fibres in most sock drawers.

Feature Alpine Woolies Merino wool Cotton
Warmth Hollow-core fibre traps heat without the bulk~Warm, but bulkier for the same warmth✕Loses its warmth once it's damp
Sweat Naturally wicks sweat away from your skin✓Wicks well✕Soaks it up and stays wet
Temperature Adapts: warm when it's cold, cool when it's not✓Good at regulating✕Hot in summer, cold in winter
Itch Smooth alpaca fibres, soft against bare skin~Fine merino is soft; coarser grades prickle~Soft, but thin
Odour Naturally resists odour, so you wash less✓Resists odour✕Holds on to smells
Feel Silky-soft from the first wear~Softer when fine, pricier~Soft until it's soaked

Questions, answered

How does the mix-and-match deal work?

Buy 2, get 1 free (3 pairs). Buy 3, get 5 free (8 pairs), our Black Friday month deal, which ends 30 November. Buy 4, get 6 free plus an extra $21 off (10 pairs). Mix any colours; the discount applies automatically in your cart.

What size should I get?

Three sizes, M, L and XL, by your usual shoe size: tap Size chart under the deals to find yours. Between sizes? We recommend sizing up. Wrong size? We'll send the next size free.

Will they itch?

Most people who find wool scratchy are comfortable in them. They're mostly baby alpaca, which is lanolin-free and very fine, with soft merino for bounce.

What if I don't love them?

Our 100-Day Best Socks Guarantee: if they're not the best socks you've ever worn, email us within 100 days and we'll refund the pairs you're not happy with. No need to send them back.

What if a pair gets a hole?

Bundles of 8 or more pairs come with our 12-Month Wear Promise. If a pair wears through within 12 months of delivery, email a photo of the hole and your order number to hello@alpinewoolies.com and we'll send you a new pair, shipping included. You keep the old pair; there's nothing to post back.

It's one replacement pair per order, for holes from normal wear. It doesn't cover cuts, burns, snags, pet damage or shrinking in a hot dryer.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are packed in 1–3 business days and usually arrive 7–12 business days later, with tracking. Free on our 8- and 10-pair bundles; the 3-pair bundle ships at a small flat rate.

Do they get smelly?

Alpaca and merino wick sweat and naturally resist odour, so they stay fresher for longer than cotton or synthetic socks, even on a double shift.

How do I wash them?

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, inside out, and hang to dry so they keep their shape and size. Skip the fabric softener and tumble dryer.

How do I put them on?

Turn the sock inside out down to the heel, slip your foot in, then roll it up your leg, smoothing as you go. No wrestling, no sweating.

How firm are they?

A firm, graduated hug: snuggest at the ankle and easing towards the knee. Firm enough to feel working, comfortable enough for a full shift. If the top band ever feels too tight or leaves deep marks, take them off.

Can anyone wear compression socks?

They're everyday comfort socks, not a medical device. If you're pregnant, have diabetes, neuropathy, a circulation condition or a history of blood clots, or are recovering from surgery, check with your doctor first. Take them off if you feel numbness or tingling.
