Sound familiar?

Cotton soaks up sweat and holds it against your skin all day. Most cheap work socks are polyester, which can't absorb it at all. Either way your feet sit in it for twelve hours, and the smell moves into your boots. Boot dryers and powder treat the boots. The problem is the sock.

  • Soaked by first breakWet socks by mid-morning, and still wet when you clock off.
  • Boot stinkThe smell that hits the cab when the boots come off.
  • Sliding downSocks creeping into your boots and bunching under your heel.
  • Sweat, then freezeSweaty on a cold morning, frozen by the next break.

  2. 7am · Frosty site Warm without the bulk Alpaca insulates without being thick, so there's still room in your boots.
  3. 11am · Flat out Dry, not swampy Alpaca and merino pull sweat off your skin, so your feet aren't soaking by lunch.
  4. 3pm · Still going Still up, still smooth Firmest at the ankle, so they stay put instead of sliding down into your boots.
  5. 6pm · Boots off No one in the truck complains Wool naturally resists odour. Into the wash, fresh pair tomorrow.

How they work

Three things cotton and polyester can't do

Most of every pair is fine alpaca and merino, with just enough stretch yarn to hold a snug, graduated fit. That's the difference you feel at quitting time.

Dry

Sweat moves out, not in

Alpaca and merino draw moisture vapour off your skin and let it escape. Cotton holds sweat against you; polyester can't absorb it, so it pools. Wool also naturally resists odour, so the smell doesn't build up in the sock or your boots.

Warm

Warm on a cold start, comfortable once you're working

Alpaca fibres are partly hollow, so they trap a little air and insulate without bulk, and they breathe as you heat up. No lanolin, so they're far less itchy than ordinary wool.

Snug

Firmest at the ankle, so they stay up

A graduated fit, snuggest at the ankle and easing towards the knee, holds the sock in place all day: no sliding down into your boots, no bunching under your heel.

What's actually in your socks

84% alpaca and merino. Just enough stretch to stay up.

Plenty of "wool" work socks are mostly polyester. Ours are mostly alpaca and merino, with a little nylon for strength and spandex for the fit. Imported.

  • Baby alpaca 62%

Soft, warm, kind to skin. Exceptionally fine and naturally warm without the weight. It's lanolin-free, so it's gentler on skin that finds wool itchy.

  • Merino wool 22%

Breathes and stays fresh. Moves sweat away from your skin and naturally resists odour, so your feet stay fresher for longer.

  • Nylon 9%

Strength where socks wear through. Reinforces the heel and toe and helps every pair hold its shape.

  • Spandex (elastane) 7%

The stretch behind the compression. The stretch and recovery that create the graduated fit, and what keeps them up.

Built for long days

Guys in the trades ask us

Will they hold up in work boots?

The heel and toe are knitted with a little nylon for strength, and the sole is cushioned. They're socks, not armour, so rotate a few pairs. And you've got 100 days to decide whether they're the best you've owned.

Won't wool be too hot in summer?

Alpaca and merino breathe and move sweat off your skin, so they stay comfortable when you're working hard. Cotton is what feels hot, because it stays wet.

Will they fit in my boots?

Yes. They insulate without being thick, so there's room in steel and composite toes, pull-ons and lace-ups.

Why knee-high?

So they sit above your boot top, never slide down into it, and the graduated fit can hold them up all day.

Can they go through the wash every day?

Yes. Machine wash cold, inside out, on a gentle cycle, and hang to dry. Skip the dryer and fabric softener.

What size are they?

One size, knitted with plenty of stretch to fit most adult feet and calves. If they don't fit, our 100-day guarantee has you covered.

Can anyone wear compression socks?

They're everyday comfort socks, not a medical device. If you're pregnant, have diabetes, neuropathy, a circulation condition or a history of blood clots, or are recovering from surgery, check with your doctor first. Take them off if you feel numbness or tingling.
